We are a community of residents, business owners and SS Badger passengers working together to support the continued operation of this historic vessel.
Lake Michigan is an important natural resource to us and our families. That is why we support efforts to give the Badger time to be retrofitted to run on natural gas fuel—one of the cleanest fuels available.
The Badger is an economic lifeline to many communities in Wisconsin and Michigan. It provides 200 jobs directly, supports another 500 jobs indirectly and has a combined overall economic impact of $35 million for both Manitowoc, WI and its homeport, Ludington, MI. And, as the last coal-powered ship in the United States, her historic impact is just as valuable as her economic impact.
